The Davenports starts with period and characters that would surely appeal to fans of Bridgerton. I love that the book is set in Chicago and centers on a wealthy Black family in a changing America post-slavery. The young women introduced at the start of this book are compelling and varied in their ambitions beyond marriage. I imagine YA readers drawn to the show or interested in historical romance would be taken by The Davenports.
