Already loving The Davenports for the multiple narrators, lush, descriptive storytelling, and new-to-me setting: Gilded Age Chicago. As mashup of a light historical romance, with a bit of the upstairs-downstairs feel of Downton Abbey, we get the perspectives of the wealthy daughters of William Davenport, but also their down-on-her-luck bestie and their lady’s maid. Feels both cozy for the classic romance notes and fresh for the Black voices at the story’s center, all set in a dynamic time period that I haven’t seen visited much before!
