I will admit this was a cover buy. I hadn't read the author before but heard pretty good things about her work. When I started reading it I didn't know it was a spin off of a different book series, but I still enjoyed it despite not having read the other series.
I never felt lost or like there was missing information I needed, but I suppouse reading the Lux series first adds an extra layer to the story.
This is mainly a romance story disguised as sci-fi, which is not a bad thing. I don't read either of those often, so it was a nice way to stepping out of my comfort zone.
I really liked the characters, and the chemistry between them. Their interactions were always fun to read! Their relationship seemed to go from hate to love very organically, also they are very fleshed out as we get to know their backstories.
About the story itself, I found it a bit repetitive and slow in some parts, but the characters make it work.
Overall it was a fun book, but I don't think I'll continue with the series.
