To say my expectations were exceeded would be putting it lightly. After the thrill ride of The Lux series I thought there was no way Armentrout could top it with a sequel series, but I had an even more addictive and swoon-worthy experience reading The Darkest Star than I ever did with a Lux book! I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, considering Luc is the main character in this one instead of Daemon and he was my favorite even back in his minor character days of the Lux series. Also, Armentrout really knows how to write a sexy love interest and I want her to write me my own.

To make the perfect Lux book you need to have swoony, slow burn romance with some enemy-like tension, fierce alien fighting skills and politics, Twilight similarities, and sharp dialogue with hilarious banter. How did this book shape up? It CRUSHED it. *insert Fat Amy gif here* I was actually able to laugh in the middle half of a semester, which is practically unheard of at university.

If you like The Lux series, aliens, or a book that will take you on a ride, please pick up The Darkest Star. Armentrout writes with a natural addictive and funny style, with the small details selling it home. What this book also has to offer is a more realistic approach to the Luxen integrating in the United States. It was eerily reflective and borderline dytopian at times. There's also a mystery subplot that will carry over at least one more book that gave me chills! I was not expecting a scary thriller type read with my alien romance.

Jennifer, if you're reading this, please please please send me a copy of book two as soon as you've finished it. I would die for a continuation of this series and I need it NOW.
