The Darkest Star is the spin-off of the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I didn’t read the Lux series but I didn't feel lost because I wasn't familiar with the Lux universe. The author did an excellent job of making The Darkest Star to stand on it's own. This is a YA romance, set in the world where aliens and humans co-exist (not so peacefully) on Earth following an alien invasion.
This book reminded me in the best way of the classic YA romances (think Twilight), where we have an ordinary girl fall in love with a brooding, mysterious boy, who have supernatural powers and who may or may not be human. I enjoyed Luc and Evie's story, even thought it was a little cliched, with Luc constantly saving Evie from danger. And even though the book didn't end on a cliff-hanger, I was left a little unsatisfied because their story was not complete, with many questions still left unanswered. I hope the second book will be a continuation of Luc and Evie's story because I want to know how their relationship progresses. Also, the events in The Darkest Star set in motion some major conflicts and developments in the Lux universe and I am looking forward to continue with the series.
