There’s always a lot of conflicting opinions when there’s a book that continues after a series that was considered complete. The same applies to The Darkest Legacy. While most of the reviews are good, there are always people who consider books like these unnecessary. I absolutely loved it, hence my five-star rating. I think I liked it even more than the original trilogy.

The Darkest Legacy follows Zu, who was a character I really wanted to know about more in the original series, so when I heard she was getting her own book, I was so pumped! She really is the star of the show here. She’s the youngest one in the original trilogy, so she doesn’t get a lot of action there. Here, however, she’s the leader of her own little group.

I loved Roman and Priyanka. I’d definitely be interested in reading a short story from Priyanka’s perspective, or even Lana’s perspective that explains their past a little more, They were both well-developed characters, and their presence added so much to the story.

Of course, this wouldn’t be a Darkest Minds book without the political drama. The government isn’t really doing their job trying to help the Psi, and the country is having its first election it five years, and a candidate who seems very similar to Gray is running for the presidency and seems to be very popular. He’s basically the villain because he has this place that’s supposed to be like a school for the Psi, but it’s basically the camps. Not a cool guy.

Overall, I could not say more positive things about the book. The only thing that annoyed me was the open-ended ending. I feel like the story is done and should have a more concrete one, but I’ll still continue to read this series if there are other books published.
