The “Darkest Minds” series has quickly become one of my favorites of the last few years, and “The Darkest Legacy” was a perfect continuation. From cover to cover you will on the edge of your seat! This new installment continues a few years after “In the Afterlight,” and follows Suzume as she tries to navigate and find herself amidst the turmoil following the airing of the IAAN conspiracy. I love that we get to know Zu on a deeper level as she fights and worries her way through new challenges. It is she now who must fight to save and protect her friends, as they once did for her. Though we saw her regain her voice in the last book, in “Darkest Legacy” we get to see her actually find it and her place in this new world.

Though Zu is the focus of this particular story, Roman and Priyanka will certainly demand your attention (and concern!). As Zu is framed for murder and everything she thought she knew is called into question, the two Psi that help her escape are shady at best. With the world out to get them and their friends in danger, they must navigate the murky waters of trusting one another, finding their true family, wading through political secrets, and fighting for the rights of Psi children everywhere.

Bracken, once again, does an incredible job of highlighting both the best and worst of humanity, and leaves you questioning where you voice might be heard in such a situation. This is a book that truly spans the age ranges, and it has many lessons for us all. You can’t help but be drawn heart-first immediately into this book, and will have a hard time putting it down until all is revealed!
