This return visit to The Darkest Minds series takes place five years after In the Afterlight. I found it to be a bit like a family reunion. The focus is on Suzume (Zu) and her journey to find Ruby and Liam after a disaster in her public relations tour for the government. As she travels through state after state cycling through one strategy after another, her resolve is refreshed by memories of the camaraderie she has shared with other Psi kids and their mission to receive acceptance from society and live in peace. The ending seemed a bit rushed after all the build up. Would have preferred to shorten the journey portion and show more of the resolution we see in the last twenty pages. Readers of the series will find this one to be a solid addition and I'm sure many look forward to seeing it depicted on the big screen in a few days.

A big thank you to Hyperion and Bookishfirst.com for the hardcover ARC I won in one of their raffles.
