I received an advanced copy of the ‘The Darkest Legacy’ by Alexandra Bracken in hardback from Bookishfirst.com & Disney Books in return for an honest review. (Thank you!)

What can I say about this book that I haven’t already gushed about regarding every other book in ‘The Darkest Minds’ series? Well, it definitely adds another thrilling chapter to the world of Psi (this time, post-Gray government) that nobody was expecting to get. The Darkest Minds was originally published as a trilogy, but I, for one, am glad that Alexandra Bracken (and her publisher!) realized that there was so much more of the world to be explored!

This novel was told from the point of view of Suzumme (or Zu, as we know her), which was an absolute selling point for me. In the original trilogy, Zu it mute, so we rarely get a peak into what she’s really thinking and feeling. Towards the end of the original series she finds her voice, and this novel continues her story during the early years of the new, reformed government. She has become a speaker for the government, yet she gets framed for an unspeakable crime. (No Spoilers!)

At this point, Suzumme is older and more mature, but there’s definitely a part of her that you just want to cradle in your arms and quietly whisper to sleep. Hasn’t this poor girl gone through enough in her life?! Stop torturing her, Bracken!

In all seriousness though, just like he original trilogy, I devoured ‘The Darkest Legacy’. I absolutely cannot wait for ‘The Darkest Minds’ movie to come out, and I really hope that Alexandra Bracken is able to continue telling stories in this world, whether it be via another novel or two, or via film. I can’t give this book 10 stars out of 5, but I absolutely would if I could. I have no doubt that ‘The Darkest Minds’ series will be read by young adult for decades to come.
