I absolutely adore Alexandra Bracken's writing, her descriptions are like no other. This addition in her Darkest Minds universe contains the intricate world building and lovable characters Bracken is known for. Set five years since the end of In the Afterlight, this story follows Zu, now seventeen years old, as she embarks on a journey to advocate for Psi rights and clear her name when she is accused of a crime she did not commit. She travels with Priyanka and Roman, two fellow Psi children that she does not fully trust.
There are cameos with fan favorite characters (Chubs, Vida, Ruby and Liam!) to see how they are doing after the events of the main trilogy.
Seeing Zu navigate through the post IAAN and Camp Thurmond/Caledonia world, having watched her grow from a shy twelve year old to a confident seventeen year old was emotional.
Overall, this book was well developed and written. I enjoyed it as a nice check in story to see how my favorite characters were doing. And it being in Zu's perspective was a great experience.
