This book was quite the mystery. My real issue was the switch between the “now” and “then”. I didn’t find the “then” aspect of the book to be that interesting or helpful. The reason for the mystery of what had caused Goldie to become ostracized wasn’t that intriguing. I’m fact, it was fairly dumb. I did find the book to be a page turner so that makes it four stars for me. Many of the characters in this book were a hard sale. The friend group honestly did not seem like very good friends so that was sad. You would think you would feel comfortable telling your deepest secrets to a bestie. The reason for the high stars is because I really didn’t know what had happened and the book kept me guessing. I skimmed over a lot of the past because it really wasn’t relevant and didn’t like how the townspeople were so mean to Goldie. I didn’t feel bad for the kid who died. He was a jerk.
