The Counselors is pretty fast paced and the then-and-now alternating timelines kept the story moving forward. It kept me intrigued enough to drive the long way home while I was listening in the car. The story revolves around Goldie and her best friends at camp and some of the other camp staff. The rich kid/poor kid theme is a big one as the camp for wealthy kids is located in a town of working class families with teens who are mostly desperate to escape their small town.
I figured out the culprit somewhat early on, but not the motive. It probably wasn’t the juiciest ending, but it was still an enticing thriller. There were some things, okay many things, that seemed unrealistic but this is a fictional YA thriller so the lack of rationalization is understandable. The summer camp atmosphere is a fun setting for a twisty end-of-summer read, perfect for reading poolside or lakeside.
