Thirty years old and newly released from jail, Tara Connelly feels like she has nothing going for her. No job prospects, no partner, no one in her family she can count on- no one even shows up to pick her up when she’s released- she has to hitch a ride back to her childhood home with the same cop who arrested her on drug charges to begin with.

Things aren’t quite what they seem. Love can be messy, especially when family is involved, and the Connelly family is no exception to this rule. But love there is, as it becomes clear as this story unfolds in all its messy, charming ways.

It’s hard not to root for Tara, and in addition, I found myself rooting for several other major characters as well, as we got to know them better and see past their flaws.

Family can be the worst thing to happen to you, but it can also be the best- and what saves you from yourself.
