The Connellys of County Down is a slow burn drama that centers around loyalty and the lengths we’ll go for our family. The adult Connelly siblings all carry the heavy burden of childhood trauma and the secrets they keep to protect themselves and one another above all else.

Although I typically prefer a faster paced, less predictable story - I got very impatient about three-quarters of the way in - I enjoyed the rich, psychological development of each of the characters and the light romance peppered in. Lange’s skill at developing her characters is what kept me engaged since there was relatively little action.

There was never any doubt that everything would turn out okay in the end, and I wanted that for these wounded characters. Tara is a likable and relatable heroine. I felt conflicted about the romance with Detective Nolan. He’s also a likable character who is sympathetic and well-intentioned with his own painful past and family loyalty issues that make him a good match for Tara. Yet his continued “crossing the line” was actually an abuse of his power, and I have issues with that.
