I don't read that many family dramas, but this book is making me rethink that decision. The Connelly family is so dysfunctional and yet so relatable for that very reason. It was fascinating to read about the relationships between the siblings, and the differing ways in which they dealt with the loss of their mother and being abandoned by their father. In particular, I enjoyed the author's exploration of loyalty because that is a characteristic that often seems to prevail among siblings no matter what their relationships have endured and the many ways in which their lives have not gone as planned. I also loved the relationship between Tara and her nephew, it made me think about how sibling relationships change when siblings become aunts and uncles to each other's kids. The only thing I didn't like was the romantic relationship between Tara and the detective, but that's a minor complaint. Now I need to check out the author's first book!
