This family story about three siblings who have been on their own since the oldest was 19 is filled with empathetic characters and interesting story lines. The setting near New York City allows for a small town feel with easy access to the big city. Their Irish mother weaves a fairy tale for them, assigning each sibling a superpower. Those superpowers become part of how each of the three sees him/herself and actions they take in the story that help to create the paths they take in life.

Tara was the most empathetic character for me. Uncle Hank, a police officer, was a stereotypical old style cop. I didn't have much empathy for his actions.

The writing moves along at just the right pace. Secrets are revealed at several places in the story, so there is more to read on for, if only to ascertain whether your guesses are correct.

An enjoyable read for anyone who likes good family tales.
