I hadn't read Lange's debut novel, We Are the Brennans, and was eager to read this one. Initially the book held my interest - the prison scenes felt well researched and realistic, and I was intrigued by the protagonist, Tara Connelly. Unfortunately, upon Tara's release, the book began to feel less realistic. One of the police officers who arrested her wants to apologize and drive her home, despite the fact that Tara had chosen not to cooperate with the police investigation. (Therefore, it didn't seem likely any police officer would feel compelled to apologize). It only got worse from there, as it became apparent that this arresting officer was also Tara's love interest. This felt unrealistic, unprofessional, and absurd in a kind of icky way, and detracted from all other plotlines in the novel. Unfortunately, I lost interest at that point and didn't finish the novel.
