I really should have given up reading this book as soon as I started and realized that every single character was going to be cishet and white. It was a book about a whole family that I couldn’t care less about. There was nothing redeeming about any of the characters - they all seemed boring and annoying. The plot was less like a plot and more like a forgone conclusion. I honestly really despised reading this book, even though I had been drawn in by the set-up of woman freshly out prison getting stalked by a policeman. I think maybe the book was trying to go for character analysis but failed entirely and tried to make up for it through a mysterious plot line, but failed that also. Now I know what to look out for: I don’t ever plan to read anything else by this author ever again. I also realize people are going to think this review is absurd as there’s really nothing hatable about this book -it’s so benign, so nondescript. But that is what I hated.
