This story begins with Tara Connelly being released after an 18-month prison sentence. She moves back home with her sister Geraldine, her brother Eddie and his young son Connor. Brian, the officer involved in her criminal case also reappears in her life. Tara tries to get on her feet while dealing with difficult family dynamics with her siblings.

This story is about forgiveness and a second chance for someone who made a mistake. Tara is a likable main character and readers will feel sympathetic towards the difficulties she faces as an ex-convict trying to re-enter society. Her relationship with her nephew Connor is a bright spot in the story. It’s easy to see her as a fun aunt. I also like that she seems to have found her passion as an artist.

As the backstory of the Connelly siblings is revealed, we get a better understanding of why each sibling has developed certain traits and habits and why they rely heavily on each other. I liked that there was a reference to Brennan’s Irish pub (from Tracey Lange’s first book “We Are The Brennan’s).

I was frustrated by Geraldine, but ultimately also felt sympathy for her too. I do feel that her work predicament did not have to spiral into such a big problem and could have been resolved more quickly with communication.

I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes family dramas.
