I've heard a lot about Alender's writing from friends who loved previous titles. After reading the preview, I would love to make 'The Companion' my first read from her. I love gothic stories, and this one jumped out at me due to the title's similarity to another gothic story I love, 'The Silent Companions' by Laura Purcell. This story sounds like it will have a similar vibe, and I would love to learn more about Margot and how she will deal with the loss of her family. Books that feature grief and loss are always a hit with me, and this seems like no exception.

The cover is so intriguing! I hope no one makes this poor girl eat a spoon ful of pins straight pins! The starkness of it also speaks to how lonesome Margot may be feeling. I'm very excited to read a horror story with some big emotional beats.
