I read this book in less than 24 hours thanks to staying home sick for most of the day and not being able to sleep until 3am. Also because the story hooked me early on and never let go!

Katie Alender's The Companion has so many classic elements of a scary story and I welcomed every bit. There's an orphan, "saved" from a group home by a wealthy couple who live on a beautiful but eerily secluded country estate, cut off from everything and everyone. There's the couple's daughter who hasn't uttered a word in the better part of a year but seems desperate to communicate something urgent. There's creepy family history, forbidden rooms, a locked cemetery, and maybe a ghost because what else can describe what's happening?! Oh, it's all so atmospheric.

The writing in The Companion is easy YA but it was the propulsive story that had me turning pages at lightening speed. Is someone making this into a movie because that's one I'd love to watch!
