Quite possibly the horror book of the year!

The companion was one of the most compelling mystery/horror books I’ve read this year. The premise has all the elements of a great horror book—an orphaned “companion,” a mysteriously sick daughter, and a mansion that seems to be frozen in time with a dark history.

I didn’t know what to expect going into this one, but I was so impressed--my main concern was that somehow because it was a YA book it wouldn't read like true horror, but I could not be more wrong. It was eerie from start to finish and I flew threw this 450 page book in 24 hours. I typically feel like I don't get to connect with the characters in horror novels, but Margot, Agatha, and Laura all felt so real and were such three-dimensional characters.

I could not put this one down and I hope it gets the recognition it deserves!
