The Companion is the story of Margot, who loses her whole family in a car accident and finds herself alone in the world. She is staying in a type of orphange called Palmer House, but nobody wants to be around her because of her dreams and screaming in the night.

Margot is brought from Palmer House to the house of a friend of her father's, and she is asked to be the companion of their daughter Agatha, who has gone into a catatonic state.

In some ways, Margot is also catatonic. Although she is talking and interacting with people, she is walking through life in a haze of grief, and everything before the accident is like a blur.

The plot of the story is interesting, and I want to know more. The writing style is engaging and the reader feels an instant connection to Margot, although she cannot connect with others. The characters are complex and interesting, and it is obvious there is a lot more to them than has been shown so far. I am really interested in the story so far and would like to read the rest. I already know why Margot is in a daze and barely functioning, but I want to know Agatha's story too.
