I had been in one of those covid-inspired reading slumps. Despite having extra time at home, just couldn't relax with a book. The Companion truly snapped me out of it! It has an easy-flowing style that pulls you in gently and wraps you up in the story. It's modern times with more than a hint of gothic mystery. The voice of the young narrator is clear and engaging, without the usual cloying that comes with adolescent leads. This would be a great pick-up for cool fall nights. But beware, you'll find yourself wishing for even more details about the characters as the story draws to a close!
I hate spoilers, so I didn't even read the book jacket before diving in to this one. I was rewarded with several straight long nights of entertainment.

I'm trying to update this review for BookishFirst. No problem if it doesn't work, but the tech is overwhelming to "certain ages." : )
