First impression: good writing, slightly awkward pacing, great main character introduction.

Reading the synopsis for The Companion jogged my memories of reading summaries on the back of V.C. Andrews books. A girl meets with tragedy and is "rescued" into a dream world of luxury that turns out to be not quite the dream she hopes. Where this book differs is with the main character. I can already tell that Margot doesn't have the naivete of those other girls written into these situations. She definitely has some raw emotion yet to be explored but has the tenacity to overcome what's being handed to her. I would love to read more about Margot and I've added The Companion to my TBR.

The cover for the book is intriguing and it makes me feel uncomfortable at the same time. So far, it seems like the perfect cover for this book's plotline.
