Margaret – Margo is the sole survivor of a car crash that kills her family – she is then sent to an orphanage. Left with nothing when she arrives at orphanage – her father’s company handled her family’s estate and donated all of her belonging thinking she would not survive. – She is set up to fail – echoes back to “Waiting to die” in prolog.
She is then adopted / becomes a Ward of a rich family after her short stay, the family is not completely unconnected – Margo’s father saved John Sutton’s life in college.
Everyone keeps telling her she is “Lucky” I have a feeling her luck is going to change
“I was telling Margaret that I don’t think girls belong in facilities.” – More than slightly foreboding…I feel like it is the sentence in a movie trailer before everything starts to fall apart
8 ½ months ago, apparently out of nowhere (but let’s be honest, there is always a reason) the Sutton’s daughter Agatha became depressed, angry and then shut down. “The doctors think it may have been some kind of aggressive bacterial infection that affected her frontal cortex”…yeah…sure…
Margot is to be set up just as the Sutton children are – “spending money, clothes, even paying for your college education” in exchange though, Margot is to be companion to Agatha who does not acknowledge anyone’s presence because “it’s not good for her to live in total isolation. She needs people around, and not just her parents, or even a nurse. She needs . . . a friend.”
This has all the tell-tale signs of a great horror movie. I cannot wait to read the rest and see exactly what is really wrong with this Agatha girl, I feel like there is more to her than we are able to see in the snippet.
