The Haunting of Hill House meets Little Women
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery/suspense story. The characters are well developed and the plot moves along at a suspenseful pace.
The book follows the story of a fictional founding family of a gun manufacturer based very loosely on the Winchester family. The relationships between the Chapel sisters evolve throughout the book causing the reader to become more invested in the story.
The author did leave several questions open to interpretation such as who the mysterious “ghost” was at the end of the story. Was it an actual ghost or the ghost of Sylvia’s former self begging to come back to life and be acknowledged?
This book would be an interesting read for any book club as it has many relationships to explore. Why did the Chapel sisters die so soon after marriage? Was there a physical reason or was the author making a statement of marriage killing the soul?
