The Cherry Robbers is a haunting gothic slow build mystery. This is my first Sarai Walker book and although her other work is classified as comedy, I am excited to go back and read it. I went into this story with just the first look and no expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Reclusive artist Sylvia Wren has long buried secrets that are at risk of being exposed when a journalist begins digging into her past. And want a past it is!! The Chapel family is made up of six sisters. Six daughters who have an inevitable fate of dying untimely deaths. One by one. Slowly but surely. The sisters have super close unbreakable bonds with one another but otherwise stay separate from the outside world. I have saw recent comparisons of The Cherry Robbers to The Virgin Suicides and would have to agree. The stories do give off some of the same vibes in the best way possible. The Chapel girls life is full of loneliness and isolation but also so much love for each other. Walker does an amazing job of painting a vivid picture of feminism, womanhood, and sisterhood.
Four stars.
