I finished this book several weeks ago and it's stuck with me in it's quiet power. The mix of waspy characters with southern gothic charm was powerful in it's themes and messaging. I got a lot of similar vibes to Sharp Objects in the themes but this one was much less visceral in a way that made it extremely readable. The narration was very strong throughout and no one felt more apt to guide us through the stories of the many sisters. It was surprising the way that even knowing the ultimate fate of the sisters I was still heartbroken by the end of every section. I would love to explore other books this author has written because I loved reading this one. The enclosed setting felt so intimate because of the clastrophobia of it all. The house felt like another character that existed within the story. The trap of traditional gender roles for the sisters is a familiar prison demonstrated so well.
