I received this ARC through a giveaway and I am glad I did. I may not of picked up and read this book if not for winning it. This is quite the gothic feminist "ghost" story. It is told through Iris Chapel/Sylvia Wren's point of view. It is the tale of six sisters born to the head of the Chapel gun manufacturing company. Iris tells the tale of her childhood and her haunted mother and the "curse" that befalls her six daughters that they die a horrible death when they get married and/or lose their virginity to a man. The retelling takes place during the 1950s when women were not taken to seriously and "prone to hysterics".
I really enjoyed the feminist voice of having to overcome the "man's world" and their domination. It's about overcoming and becoming empowered to be who you are and want to be, to reinvent yourself out of a horrible circumstance.
This was a great read.
