This book starts off with beautiful atmospheric prose, giving a strong description of Arizona. I love books with a strong sense of place, where the location is almost a character in and of itself. As the mystery unfolds - a change of identity, a letter from a journalist decades later wanting to reveal the story - it's clear that this is going to be a juicy story. I don't love the style of the character addressing the reader, telling us she's writing in a journal, but I can get over that. I'm curious about her relationship with Lola, which seems to be a bright point in her life.
