While this young adult read has many important themes for young readers, I found that the story concept was lacking for me. The thriller/mystery aspect was a very odd concept that did not strike me as "real life." Instead, the story struck me more on the side of scientific fiction mystery as opposed to thriller/horror.

Given some of the above discussion, I gave this one only three stars. Typically, a two star read is a DNF book for me. This one was close to that two star DNF threshold; however, I pushed through start to finish so that I could give this one a full qualified review.

Oyemakinde should be praised for the themes that he brings through in his characters and their relationships. He gives his young characters power and ownership of their world and teaches young readers that they can have the same. It's the scientific fiction aspect that pulls this one down for me.
