This was an amazing debut for Tomi Oyemakinde. I was immediately drawn in by the unique concept of the book. It was creepy and spooky, and just really the perfect Halloween read, particularly for a teen reader. To me it felt like I was watching an episode of the X-Files or Supernatural. I really thought that it was going to be some kind of spooky ghost story, but it took a wild turn that I was not expecting. It was a wild but very fun ride.

The author did an amazing job of writing characters with very distinct personalities and character growth. I loved reading Ben, Bijal and Ife's interactions. I really enjoyed Ife as a character. She is a strong but flawed character that shows a lot of growth throughout the book. I loved that we got to see examples of panic attacks that didn't portray the character as weak or helpless, but rather someone who is able to be the hero despite her fear and anxiety.
