The debut novel, The Changing Man, written by Tomi Oyemakinde, deserves recognition for its intriguing general style and captivating descriptions of the setting. The plot twists added an entertaining element to the story. However, the dialogue and actions of the characters overshadowed these positive aspects. Despite being portrayed as 17-18-year-olds, their behavior seemed excessively childish, making it difficult to envision them as anything other than 12-year-olds. This unrealistic portrayal suggests either a lack of understanding or an extremely sheltered upbringing. Additionally, although marketed as an eerie and creepy tale, the book failed to deliver on this promise. Perhaps I have become immune to such elements in literature. Overall, while I had high expectations for this novel, it ultimately fell short of my expectations.
