I really wanted to like this more than I did. I follow the author on social media, and he seems like a lovely guy. The bare bones of the story here were interesting; unfortunately, the book suffered from strange dialogue that was almost jarring to read and clunky descriptions. I loved the setup, and the first few chapters really got my hopes up; they were excellent and creepy. Ife was a relatable protagonist, and I thought the depictions of loneliness and isolation were excellent, in addition to only adding to the spooky atmosphere. The story did end up going in a direction I didn't expect, but I think it worked well with the atmosphere. I'm a huge Lovecraft fan, and I felt that the author definitely drew a lot of inspiration from Lovecraft. If only the writing style had a little more depth to it, this would have been an easy 4 stars, maybe 5. I'm curious to see what else this author can do!
