2.5/5 stars! The cover of this book was so powerful and beautiful. It is very unfortunate that this was the best part of the story. The premise was interesting and made me open the book with decent expectations. The biggest letdown of this book was the way the characters behaved. They acted like 10-13-year-old children acting out and making impulse decisions with zero thought behind their actions. As an adult reader, this was very offputting. This was supposed to be a YA mystery story, but it felt like with one or two exceptions, it was a middle-grade tale. It did have a very strong ending, but this couldn't save the rest of the book. It is likely that a lot of readers would quit this book before getting to that point. The pacing was also a struggle and felt all over the place. I think the author could benefit from honest beta readers to help her tweak pacing and character development moving forward.
