Minority-focused Gossip Girl vibes with an urban legend twist!
I liked that this opened with the missing boy's POV, it really grabbed me and gave a good taste of what was to come for the main character, kind of like a cold open in a horror movie.
Ife is one of the only Black students at her fancy new school, Nithercott, and with the school making her scholarship so apparently, she's struggling to fit in with her status-obsessed classmates. That aspect reminds me of a more updated, minority-focused version of Gossip Girl, and I'm excited to see how that storyline ties in with the urban legend vibes of the Changing Man and the disappearing students!
