I know usually when someone talks about an unrealistic female POV character they are usually referring to a "breasts breasting boobily" type situation, which is not what this is. But there's something I can't put my finger on about this book where the protagonist does not feel like a teenage girl to me. I read the whole first look assuming it was a male protagonist and only realized it was supposed to be a girl when going back to look at the author's bio and seeing the summary. So points off for that, although less so than if I could actually articulate what I meant.

Overall, while this isn't the author's fault necessarily, I have seen wayyyy too many books that feel way too similar to this one to really want to read it. "Fish out of water in a rich kid school", ESPECIALLY with horror elements, seems to be really trending in YA recently (and I'm already tired of it). You have to be really good to stand out from the pack in that if you're not one of the firsts, and this just doesn't. It's unfortunate for this author that they didn't get to this concept first.
