This is just the book I need as a new writer looking to get my words out into the world! Susan Shapiro walks us through the what, how, where, when and why's of creative nonfiction writing and publishing. It seems like a class in the book, and she's a fun teacher, too.
In particular I found the section on how to choose a topic to write about specific and helpful- the idea that what makes us together and likable in "real life" might not work on the page helps me to go deep and think of places where I'm vulnerable, struggling, and how I can bare it all more in my writing. I've read her work before and love it, and the fact that a NYTimes editor prefaces the book is a strong endorsement for her techniques.
