This was my first Amy Rose Capetta and it definitely won't be my last.

After reading the sneak peek of THE BRILLIANT DEATH, I knew I had to claim this book with my BookishFirst points. I'm a sucker for beautifully lyrical and lush writing and Capetta fits that description perfectly.

So a little 411: Teodora aka Teo is the daughter of Niccolo DiSangro—a prominent family in Vinalia. When there is an attempt on Niccolo's life (and the other heads of the Five Families of Vinalia, it begins a long-awaited war between the Five Families and Capo, the new ruler in town. Teo sets off to meet with Capo along with her younger brother, Luca, and Cielo, a strega who can shift between male and female physical forms. In order to infiltrate the Capo, Teo must learn this as well.

The gender fluidity and love story is so good. The story is wonderful. The prose is again great. Easily 4 stars—really engaging.
