I'm going to be entirely honest, I really hated the way that this book deals with genderfluidity. I thought that with a trans author, I wouldn't have to deal with the pitfalls of overly intertwining ones physical appearance with their gender identity in the way that a lot of other books do, but this book fell victim to the genderfluid shapeshifter whose pronouns are dictated by the genitals that they have at the moment trope not once, but twice. I kind of understand the personal escapism and how people might write that as wish fulfillment, but personally, I absolutely detest the trope, in major part because it is one of the only ways that I ever seen genderfluidity depicted.

Also the book was kind of boring otherwise, and if you want a better alternative to this book in the same genre, with similar tropes, with an actual good depiction of genderfluidity in a fantasy world, as well as a t4t romance I would suggest Venom and Vow.
