I was sold on this book from the moment I read the concept. Magic that you can use to change the form/substance of something? Yes please. And the ability of that magic to change yourself (including your gender)? Sign me the heck up.
And then I read the except and it got better. Too often in books the protagonist is a person who comes from either a good or neutral rich family, or comes from the slums. Theodora comes from wealth and power, but her family is by no means good. In fact, they are essentially corrupt, gangster style politicians, but set further back in history than the suit wearing, gun toting stereotypes we think of today. Even just reading a short bit, I'm already intrigued by the entire world, beyond Theodora herself.
I can't wait to read the full book and find out what happens to Theodora and the kingdom she lives in.
