I'll start with the easy things: the cover is intriguing and I love the styling of the pages that we got to see. The story is enthralling, blending some elements we are familiar with (like the young women who doesn't understand her own magic) with some enchanting world building.
I love the gender redefining nature of this story. We so often see the capable daughter left out of an inheritance story line, and this story seems poised to take that to the next level.
My only issue thus far is that we've had a lot of violence pretty early in. The descriptions of Beniamo scream psychopath and chilled me to the core. I know that young teens deal with so much more than they used to, but with a description that lists this title for ages 12 and up, there is a protective side of me that wonders if I would have been able to handle this much...truth...at that age.
Nonetheless, I think the story is beautiful. I am anxious to read the rest of it when it comes out.
