I love books that show women as strong characters who will do what they have to do to be the person they want to be. And this book is a perfect example of that! She didn't want to be a wife and mother. She wanted to be a book woman and she became a book woman.
I really found the book woman occupation to be a cool thing. I think having women go out delivering and reading to the Appalachian hill people to be a great thing. Education wasn't an important thing back then. It was work the coal mines for the men. And get married and have babies for the women. There wasn't time for things like reading and education.
I'm really glad someone wrote such a great book that really shows the way life was in the hills of Kentucky. Great job!!
