Something I never knew - The Kentucky Pack Horse Program
This book was well researched and very informative; shining a light on the dedicated members of the Kentucky Pack Horse Program. The author doesn’t turn away from the rampant racism and bigotry that pervaded the back country and the “hillfolk” of eastern Kentucky, incorporating that malevolence into a story of one young woman who refused to be deterred from her calling.
The characters were so well defined that it took little to relate to their situations, emotions, troubles and determination. I knew little about the blue skinned people of Appalachia and nothing about the "mobile library" of the time. So much of this book was a revelation in how little exposed this area of the country has been.
