Once upon a time, deep in the Appalachian Mountains, lived a very rare ancestry of human called the Blue People. They were called this because their skin was literally...blue. they were ostracized and panicked and avoided; they tried to stay away from large towns and mostly kept.to.themselves for fear of discrimination.

This book follows Cussy Carter in the 1930s; in this one she is the last female known from the Blue People group. She works hard to provide for herself and her family, small though it is. She eventually applies to join the Pack Horse Library Project of Kentucky, and eventually gets approved. She becomes a travelling librarian and brings books to people by horse; she services those who for some reason or another can't make it to town themselves. It's dangerous, but rewarding, and she loves it. She ends up making friends, and teaching people to read.

This was a good book, easy to follow and well written, and as most books has a fairly happy ending. I recommend this to people who want to know more about Blue People and early library services.
