This is a story of a Kentucky Pack Horse librarian named Cussy Carter. She was one of a few Blue people that lived in that area. Because of her skin color, she was treated poorly by the White people in her town. What I like about her character is her determination. She was eager to deliver books to her patrons because it was important to read more than a Bible.
I did not know about Blue people existed until I read this book. The author, Kim Michele Richardson, had done an excellent job writing the story of the Pack Horse Project and Blue Kentucky people, especially it is hard to find information about Blue people. Overall, great research combined with great writing is the foundation of exceptional fiction. I enjoyed the story!
