I was intrigued from the first page that I read.The blue people of Kentucky was something I had never read about. I loved that she was very independent and wanted to help the people who lived in the hills and mountains. Even though she had problems with people being afraid of her color,she seemed to have a willingness to help others. She wanted them to learn to read and to better their lives. She tries to feed the hungry children both with food and her friendship.It therefore earned her the name of Book Woman.She fought the blindness and hard discrimination of the town's people with grace and great strength.I loved the the interaction between her and her patrons,especially a young boy named Henrey and a young pregnant woman who would change her life forever
