The Kentucky Blue people and a packhorse librarian. Really enjoyed this story about real events during the 1930s. I didn’t know anything about this history of librarians or about blue people. Cussy was a great character who was so full of love of life even though hers was hard. Cussy loved the people on her route well, and I fell right along with her. She genuinely cared about everyone and wanted the best for them. It was also interesting to get a look into how others treated Cussy because she was blue and the lengths they would go to keep her from being able to enjoy life. This is such a niche history almost, yet it’s one that’s important to learn about because it showed how prevalent prejudice went in history among anyone who wasn’t white. The end of the story left me in all my feels. I know there’s a sequel, and I need to get to it to see how this story continued to play out.
