The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek ⁣

I really have no idea why this book isn’t getting more hype. It’s so good! Set in Kentucky during the Depression, it tells the story of one traveling librarian- Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy also happens to be quite unique because her skin is blue and she believes herself to be the last of her kind. Cussy faces many doubters as she travels her treacherous route and bravely takes on challenges in the hope of spreading the joy of books. ⁣

📚 I had never heard of the blue skinned people of Kentucky or the Kentucky Pack Horse library service before. Both topics are truly fascinating. ⁣
📚 This novel discussed many heavy topics- racism, poverty, arranged and abusive marriages, horrible conditions in the mines, starving children, etc. Cussy is so strong, but it’s heartbreaking. Ultimately, Cussy’s book route is one of the only good things these people have going for them. ⁣
📚 Cussy travels her route with her badass mule Junia. This animal is cranky, brave and a fantastic judge of character. She may be the hero of the entire book! I obviously loved Junia. ⁣

Read this book! Five stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
